Holy Marriage is a profound blessing from God and was instituted by Him before humanity’s fall into sin. In the union of one man and one woman in Holy Marriage, we see a picture of the perfect relationship between Christ and His bride, the Church. God has instituted marriage for the mutual companionship, help and support of man and wife, for the delight each receives in one another, and for the procreation of children.
Since the fall into sin, sin has complicated marriage. Satan wars against it and seeks to destroy homes and families. Therefore, St. Paul’s desires that couples enter into marriage on the solid foundation of God’s Word, with Christ at the center. Marriage services at St. Paul’s follow the Rite of Holy Marriage on p. 275 in Lutheran Service Book. Marriage preparation at St. Paul’s involves several marriage enrichment sessions with one of our pastors, culminating in the discussion of the marriage rite and details relating to the service.
